
Johannes Zukertort

Johannes Zukertort was the contender who lost to Wilhelm Steinitz in the first official Chess World Championship match in 1886. He was a student of Anderssen. He was a man of many talents and at one time was not only a Chess Master by a doctor and combat surgeon, a foreign correspondent, a linguist and musician. His greatest win was the double-round London Tournament of 1883.
